Hiraya: A Handwritten Font for Creative Campaigns
It's 9 PM on a Thursday, and the team is finalizing the visuals for a seasonal sale launch. The main graphic needs to be eye-catching, yet approachable. After testing several options, we land on Hiraya—a simple and cute handwritten font that feels like a personal note in a digital world.
What Is Hiraya?
Hiraya is a premium font that captures the essence of natural handwriting. Its rounded edges and gentle curves give it a friendly, approachable personality. This script amp font blends the warmth of hand-drawn lettering with the consistency of a digital typeface. It’s ideal for campaigns that want to feel authentic without sacrificing clarity.
Unlike rigid serif or sans serif fonts, Hiraya adds a human touch. It works best for short headlines, callouts, and decorative titles where the visual appeal matters more than dense text. Its softness makes it perfect for branding that wants to feel personal, whether it's for a lifestyle blog, a product launch, or an online course announcement.
Using Hiraya in Social Media Graphics
When designing Instagram posts or YouTube thumbnails, first impressions are everything. Hiraya stands out in a feed full of bold, modern typography. On a dark background, its light strokes still pop, and on a light background, it maintains enough contrast to be readable at a glance.
We used Hiraya for a quote graphic promoting a mindfulness workshop. The font added a warm, inviting tone that matched the campaign’s message. In a fast-scrolling feed, it was one of the few elements that made people pause and take notice.
For a webinar banner, we paired Hiraya with a clean sans serif font. The combination created a balanced hierarchy—Hiraya for the title, the sans serif for the details. This pairing worked well for both desktop and mobile views, ensuring the message remained clear across all platforms.
Readability and Mobile Optimization
One of the biggest challenges with handwritten fonts is readability, especially on small screens. Hiraya handles this well when used for short phrases. However, it’s not the best choice for long paragraphs or dense information. For example, using it in a newsletter body would make the text hard to scan quickly.
In digital ads, we tested Hiraya on thumbnail previews. Even at 100px height, the font remained legible. We found that keeping text size above 24px ensured it didn’t get lost in image overlays or social media cards. For mobile users, avoiding tiny text sizes was key to maintaining visibility.
Campaign Situations Where Hiraya Shines
Hiraya excels in promotional visuals that rely on emotional connection. For a content series about self-care, we used it for the title cards and pinned graphics. The font’s softness aligned perfectly with the brand’s tone, creating a cohesive look across all materials.
For an online shop campaign, we used Hiraya on product banners and email headers. It gave the brand a more personal, curated feel compared to standard typography. When paired with a minimalist design, the font helped reinforce the brand’s identity without overwhelming the viewer.
We also used it for a teaser campaign before a new course launch. The font added a sense of anticipation and excitement, making the preview feel more like a personal invitation than a sales pitch.
When Hiraya May Not Be the Best Fit
While Hiraya is versatile, it’s not suitable for every situation. In formal corporate communications, its casual nature might not align with the brand’s tone. Similarly, using it for lengthy text blocks, such as in a whitepaper or product description, could reduce readability and confuse the audience.
For campaigns targeting a professional or high-end audience, a more structured typeface might be a better fit. However, for brands that prioritize creativity, authenticity, and a personal touch, Hiraya offers a unique alternative.
Font Pairing and Design Assets
Pairing Hiraya with other fonts can enhance its impact. A clean sans serif like Montserrat or Poppins complements its softness without competing. A serif font like Playfair Display can add elegance, while another script font might create a layered effect.
Before using Hiraya in any campaign, it’s important to check the available styles, alternates, and ligatures. These features can help customize the font for different design needs. Also, ensure the file formats (OTF, TTF) are compatible with your design software and that the commercial license covers your intended use.
For multilingual support, confirm that Hiraya includes characters for the languages you’ll be using. This is especially important if your campaign targets international audiences.
